• This Is Real It Happens - Walvinder Sian

All too often we read or hear of horror stories that affect people and their lives. All too often we read or hear of their fight for justice, freedom, survival or death. All too often we read and hear this, to then continue with our daily lives.

I recently had the pleasure and honour of meeting a survivor - Jas Glen. Yes I have read about her and heard about her and I too continued with my daily routines of life. However, to take this further, I was also privileged enough to sit in the company of Jas and listen to her tell her story. Actually, thinking about it, I do not mean a story but more of a real kick in the heart, open up your eyes, face the real world, this does happen, wake up call, aaaaaargggghhhh kind of a message.

Jas spoke of her life encompassing turmoil, grief, pain, love, letting go, strength, danger, faith, loss, hope, forgiveness, understanding, anger, lack of understanding, family bonds, unhappy forced marriages and abuse on all levels.

After reading the book, Children of Hope by Simran Kahani and meeting the author the message is loud and clear – this is real and it happens.

I hold pure admiration for Jas, not for just writing the book but being brave enough to speak about it. How many others cannot, will not and are unable to speak? Jas has made it clear that even if they are unable to speak, help is still needed on a much larger scale than we could ever imagine. I sincerely hope that at least some of my life will be spent helping and supporting those with or without a voice.

Jas – Thank YOU – may your message spread widely and impact positively on the lives of many to create better and happier generations with loving understanding and respect for human rights.
